‘We were always royalty’
I used to think my hair was something to fix — a problem to tame, a burden to hide. Growing up, I was made to feel like my coarse hair was less than. No one ever told me it was beautiful. There was no guidance, no ritual — just relaxers, scissors, and shame. I watched my confidence shrink as my identity
became tangled in products that didn’t see me… didn’t know me. So, I did what many of us did — I straightened, I covered, I wore wigs. But the bald patches came anyway, and so did the emptiness. In my 20s, I was lost under it all — the damage, the pretense, the silence.
Until one day, I chose me.

I shaved it all off. Bald. Clean. Free.
And for the first time, I saw myself — raw, powerful, enough. I began tending to my crown, not to hide it, but to honour it. I used earth’s oils, herbs, and butters to love it back to life. I kept it bald because
I loved the woman I saw. Then I became a mother — to two beautiful Black children. A boy and a girl.
And I knew: their story had to be different. So, I spoke life into their roots. Daily affirmations. Curly hair days. Homemade oils. Protective styles. Laughter and pride. I taught them: your hair is beautiful. It is unique. It is Individuality. It is self expression. It is love. It is home.
And from that healing came a vision — QKROWN.
